Community Partners Workshop Programs

Community Partners offers workshops to groups of leaders of Connecticut- based Not-For-Profit organizations, typically the Board Chair and other Board leaders, Executive Directors and key staff.

Workshop participants (L to R): Brian Allert - Carver Center, Bob Neiman - HBS CP, Jeff Krulwich - HBS CP

The workshops are not academic seminars. They help participants apply the methods taught and move into action to make greater tangible progress.

The Mission Tune Up – Rigorous thinking through the essential mission of the organization, its impact and value added, given the variety of issues to be considered – the constituency, the needs, the competitive/collaborative landscape, the distinctive competence and resources of the organization – and steps to engage the entire organization in shaping and understanding the mission.

The Balanced Scorecard Dashboard – Helps participants define a limited number of goals in each of four key areas: Outreach, Funding, Operations, and Learning and Growth, identify metrics to measure progress, and then create a dashboard to report and track results. This helps define the specific strategy of the organization and the means for control of action to carry out the strategy.

Managing Execution Challenges – Helps participants get started tackling vital goals, grasp the essentials of project management and deal with obstacles that typically impede achievement – psychological, management, institutional and political barriers. It provides tools to create short term performance breakthroughs and assess one’s own implementation patterns as a basis for continued achievement and learning.

Building Corporate-Nonprofit Strategic Alliances   Helps participants identify those unique features of their mission and activities which have strategic congruency with the mission and values of selected corporations.  One or more Pro forma value propositions are considered and developed as the framework for making a specific proposal for a strategic alliance with a selected corporate partner.

The Effective Nonprofit Workshop Series – Creating Social and Economic Value – This is a series of six workshops conducted one per month for leadership teams of nonprofit organizations. The outcomes: a higher value vision for the organization and the design and launch of a specific value adding project. The series covers:
  • Mission and Impact Statement
  • Balanced Scorecard Goals
  • Measuring Outcomes and Economic Value
  • Strategic Alliances
  • Execution to design and launch a value adding project.
